Dec. 19th, 2011 - A-Squad Warriors in the Trenches
While the quarterback and running backs usually get the glory, it’s the guys in the trenches that really control the game. The Cougars A-Squad featured awesome O-linemen who are moving on to Bacon Academy next year. Combined with a few great returning players, this line paved the way for several successful Cougars backs and protected the quarterback in a well-balanced offensive attack this season. At Center, Zach Hill stepped in for 7-year starter Josh Parlee and flawlessly handled the snaps and made crushing blocks. Parlee returned halfway through the season and finished his Cougars career as a key to the team’s play-off run. Hill’s play at Center was so good he was the 2011 Matt Levine Award Winner. On the left side of the line, Colin Brown returned to the Cougars and played Tackle while Sebastian Coutu continued his strong line play at Guard. These two combined to protect the quarterbacks blind side and open huge holes for the backs. The right side of the line featured two retiring Cougars who have run over defensive lineman and led Cougars offenses for several years. Dylan Kornbrath played Guard and paired with Tackle Tyler O'Connor. The two Joined together to plow through the defense on the right side. Also in the offensive line rotation, playing both Guard and Tackle, were Robert Saraco, Julian Lindo, Evan Turner, and Anthony Moreira. All improved their skills and contributed to the Cougars success this year. Led by Coach Robert Parlee, Bacon Academy has some talented and experienced lineman heading their way in 2012. Thanks to you hard working lineman, your efforts allow the QBs and Running Backs to make their magic and have been the key to the Cougars success.
